Fish Eye View of the Pump and Filter Systems.

Himmel, our Standard Schnauzer inspects the new filter interior which will consist of 'mats' which look like this. 32 air-stones will provide the air.

Here is a picture of the mats in the filter. The interior will be filled with this material. The spacers were sewn with the matting sheets to prevent movement if power washed. In 3 years, the matting has not been washed.

Looking down into the sump. The "hole" is 2 X 4 feet and 7 feet deep. There are 3 rows of 8 inch diameter by 18 inch long brushes inside with one layer of Japanese mat on top. The water comes in by gravity by the 2 four inch pipes which are graded 12 inches upward so there is always 1 foot of water and pulled up by the pumps. Water is pushed to the filters 35 feet, through a 3 inch pipe. Water goes through both filters in parallel.

This is the heart of the pond system. The ¼ Teel pump is used all the time and the 1/6 Teel is used in the summer. With both pumps in use, they will turn over 7500 gallons per hour. There is also a 1/10 Teel used to power the 3 jets and is on a timer for 2 hours a day to help move waste to the drain.

Here is a view of the up-flow gravel filter. It is 3 feet wide, 7 feet long, and 6 feet high and is made of plywood and fiber glass to take advantage of all available space. There is an 8 inch layer of light weight rock from Colorado called Balance. An air manifold attached to a 2hp blower makes the job of cleaning it every 5 weeks in the summer an easy one.

In 2004, I replaced the filter brushes, with an new Vortex Microstrainer system. It was installed in the sump.

The new micro-screen system. The deflector plate is difficult to see.

{image 40}

Modification to the sump pump system. A 3/4 inch PVC pipe is routed from the pump to the rotating filter.

Jets clean the screen as it rotates.
